A very loyal friend and guest passed away on Saturday 6th March. John “Algie” Paternoster came to Anglers Paradise for many years and was always the life and soul especially at the Nettings. He even accompanied me to Ascension, catching a bigger Marlin than me.
He was irreplaceable and will be greatly missed by all.
God rest his soul

Algie was an immense character, my sort of bloke, some of you know I carve Maori stuff, here's something I found in one of my books.
Rimu-rimu, tere tere
E rere ki te moana.
E tere ana ki te ripo
I waho e.
Tirohia i waho rä
E marino ana e.
Kei roto i ahau
E marangai ana e.Ka pu te ruha ka hao te rangatahi
E hoa ma, ina te ora o te tangata
Kia hora te marino, Kia whakapapa pounamu te moana, Kia tere te karohirohi.
Ma Io koutou e manaaki, e tiaki, i nga wa katoa.
Haere atu rā
Roughly translated
Seaweed drifting, drifting,
floating on the ocean.
Drifting in the whirlpool,
out there.
When I look out there
it is so calm
while within me
everything is storm tossed.
As an old net withers another is remade
My friends, this is the essence of life
May the seas be calm, May the shimmer of summer Glisten like the greenstone, Dance across thy pathway
May your God bless you and protect you for all time.
Farewell

Such sad news.
Algy you will be missed , you were always the life & soul of the nettings & the parties.
You had such a wonderfull way with words I still smile thinking about your "Dung funnel" or when you convinced me to eat a raw onion to stop my cough .

Great respect to a great fellow.
I will miss the old bugger and will not have to worry any more about where my alcohol is vanishing to.

From all of the "Crawley boys" who over the past 18 years spent the same week in Paradise with Algie, Algie took the photo of my first 20lb Catfish on Octopussy in 2000,
(fond memories indeed)
May I pass on our sincere condolences. Very sad news indeed.
I hope he is sitting by an even better lake now and catching a dream fish every cast.

I have recently found out that " TOMIC " passed away in March. All those that knew him know how much of a character he was, happy to see old friends as well as new. Even though we now only go once a year, he seemed to remember us, and greeted us like old friends.
