Dom Smith, had a session on Xanadu in the hope of a 20+ Carp, and that he did in the shape of this Stunning 23lb 6oz Common, which he nearly lost but didn’t thanks to a bit of luck!
Dom’s Story -
“After a day’s session on the Beginners Carp Lake on our first day, we were all in a good mood and were well up for more fish! The second day rolled around and we decided to fish Xanadu for the night.
After walking down, setting up, getting the rods out, and trying to make solid bags with wet hands in the rain, despite the fact it never rains in Devon, I managed to get them out in a fashion. After an hour or so the rod wrapped round and..... it came off!! I was absolutely gutted, it felt like such a good fish and to add insult to injury it started to rain again!! Perfect I thought!
I got the rod back out casting out over the far margin then walked round the lake and lowered the tied on solid bag, then put 4kg of particle mix in the edge. Nothing was showing, they shut up shop, I thought I missed my chance.
Then at 5am the rod went into meltdown, after a good fight praying it didn't come off it went in the net! I unhooked the fish in the net, safely got it into the retaining sling while I got the scales out.
I couldn’t believe it when I realised that I only gone and not zipped up the sling!! Luckily, by an absolute miracle, it managed to stay in!! I got it onto the mat, took some pictures of the most perfect carp I have ever seen, not a scale out of place and immaculate mouth.
A true example of an Anglers Paradise Fish!! I worked really hard for that fish and it was well worth it!”
WELL DONE DOM, STUNNING FISH! NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS IN FISHING…NEVER GIVE UP!!
